Intermediate Tracking and Article Search

Conditions

  • The general rules for competition apply to all CKC Events. Please refer to separate publications for more details.
  • During this competition, the handler may verbally encourage the dog throughout the entire track, provided he stays at the required distance behind the dog. Anytime the handler shortens this distance, points will be deducted. In the handler comes within half the required distance, a zero will be scored.
  • To obtain a title at this level, three passing scores on three separate days are required.
  • Only a tracking harness or a flat collar may be worn during this competition.
  • Each dog will start off with 50 total points. The minimum passing score is 40 points. Deductions will be made based on the severity of the error, and in accordance with the current CKC Score Sheet.

 Tracking Session:

  • Dogs must compete on a long lead of at least 33’. Tracking harnesses may be used but are not required.
  • The dog must track a live person in this event.
  • The dog must stay on the track until the task is completed or the maximum amount of time has elapsed.
  • The dog must find the tracklayer in a friendly manner.
  • The handler must remain at least 30’ behind the dog once it leaves the starting point.
  • Judges should remain approximately 25 yards behind the handler.
  • The dog must track 400-yards, with at least 4 turns but not more than 5 turns. 50-yards must be across a hard surface. There must be at least 1 cross track during the course.
  • The dog may track for the maximum of 20 minutes.
  • Tracks at this level must be aged for one hour prior to the dog running the track.

 Article Search Session:

  • The dog is required to compete off lead.
  • There will be a 50 sq ft. search area. The dog is required to locate three articles within the search area and indicate completion of this task by using the method designated by the handler in the declaration.
  • The handler is not allowed to enter the search area or direct the dog in any way.
  • If, in the judge’s opinion, the handler gives a command, signal or hand gesture that directs the dog’s search, the dog will be disqualified. However, once the dog indicates an article, the handler may give a command to resume the search for other articles.
  • The handler may encourage the dog during the article search with praise or by repeating the search command.
  • The dog is allowed to search a maximum of 1 minute per article.
  • No points will be awarded if the dog either fails to find the articles or fails to identify them correctly to the handler.

CHAMPIONSHIP TITLES

 

CKC offers two different options to achieve Performance Titles (Title that include Obedience, Precision Agility and Tracking & Article Search. If you choose to only work in one discipline, you can obtain a CKC Championship in Obedience (OBCh), Agility (AGCh), or Tracking (TRCh) by first successfully completing the Advanced title in that discipline. Then you must obtain 10 passing scores in that discipline, at the advanced level. A dog may compete no more than twice on any event in one day.

CKC also offers a more rounded series of Championships called “Performance Championships.” To obtain a Novice Performance Championship (NCh), the dog must obtain a Novice level 3 title in all three levels of the Novice Performance disciplines (obedience, agility and tracking). To obtain a Intermediate Performance Championship (ICh), the dog must obtain the Intermediate titles in all three of the Intermediate Performance disciplines (obedience, agility and tracking) . To obtain an Advanced Performance Championship (ACh), the dog must obtain the Advanced titles in all three of the Advanced Performance disciplines (obedience, agility and tracking). To obtain a Master Championship (MCh), a dog must pass the Master’s Performance Program three times, at no less than three trials, on at least three separate days.
