The CKC Instructors course covers a wide variety of topics. From Socialization
to Business and Marketing, you will learn everything needed to gain confidence
in becoming a professional dog trainer. Through this class, you will gain an
understanding of how dogs learn, what motivates them, why certain dogs have
specific behavior problems, and how to correct problems and encourage good
behavior. Most dog owners understand the need for training their dog, but they
lack the ability and knowledge of appropriate training methods. Through this
class, you will be able to instruct dog owners on methods that will help
individual dogs with individual training needs. This course covers the
following topics:
-
Socialization
-
Communication
-
Health and Nutrition
-
PetSaver Pet first aid course
-
Behavior Problems
-
Pedigree Analysis & Research
-
Training Methods
-
Training Techniques
-
Business and Marketing
-
Equipment Uses
-
Behavior Aids Uses
-
Basic Genetics
In addition to the information gained from the topics listed above, you will
also receive over 100 hours of hands-on experience, learning how to apply the
information gained in the classroom. You can work with adoption dogs that are
already at the training center, or you can bring your own personal dog from
home to work with during these times of training. The instructors will guide
you throughout these hands-on training sessions and will be available to answer
any questions you might have.
Course Overview
If you have ever had aspirations of becoming a professional dog trainer, or if
you have a desire to increase your professional knowledge of dogs, then the
Continental Kennel Club Instructor Course is for you! This eight session course
is structured in a unique format that allows participants to absorb large
blocks of information. It is taught by Jerry Hope who is the CKC Master Trainer
and Director of CKC Events/Training and an internationally certified dog
behavior consultant and by Crystal Simoneaux, the CKC Utility Specialist and
Certified Professional Dog Trainer. These instructors are advocates of positive
reinforcement training techniques; however, there are many different techniques
that will be covered in the eight sessions. The course caters to individuals
who have a full-time job and would like to change careers or enhance their
knowledge of dogs in breeding and training. Once a month, students arrive at
the CKC Training Center for an information-filled weekend. The student will
then return to his or her home and begin to put the information into practice.
The student will be required to work on projects, read and report on
information-filled writings of numerous dog experts, and fulfill numerous other
assignments during the month between classes. All assigned homework will be due
before the beginning of the next class. If you are serious about becoming your
community’s expert on dog training, then this class is perfect for you!
