Another year complete and another Dogs Across America in the books. Continental Kennel Club joined the Annual Dog Powered Relay Event with participants in Alabama, Georgia, and Louisiana. The weekend was an adventure for the Louisiana participants. Their relay took them through the woods of the Kisatchie National Forest along the Wild Azalea Trail, outside of Alexandria, LA. The packed trail through the woods was dangerous in some areas, causing a few minor injuries with our riders on Saturday, but it didn’t stop them from completing the trail on Sunday. All together, the Louisiana team accomplished 26 miles!

The Georgia team took the paved trail of Berry College as their relay track. They had some visitors along the track who were rooting them on. Herds of deer were along the trail watching the riders as they passed by. They totaled 10 miles on the Viking Trail at Mt. Berry, GA. Way to go Georgia team!

The Alabama Team was ready for the weekend, although new to the dog power sport. Christina and her trusty dogs, Trudy and Buddy, managed to conquer the Aldridge Creek Greenway in Southeast Huntsville, Alabama. The trail is about 3 miles one way. On Saturday, Trudy pulled the scooter for 4.5 miles and walked the remaining 1.5 and on Sunday, Buddy managed to pull the entire 6 miles. That gave the Alabama team 12 miles for the weekend.

Thank you to everyone who participated in this great sport to make 2006’s Dogs Across America a huge success. We hope there will be even more participants next year to make it even better.
