In November, CKC held its 1st annual Breeder’s Seminar. There was a fantastic turnout from CKC breeder’s all across the United States. In addition to the superb presentations, attendees enjoyed some great local cuisine. An informative and technical presentation on canine genetics was presented by two talented graduate students from Texas A & M University. Avid Microchip presented a knowledge-filled hour on the microchip industry and attendees got to witness two dogs, a Rottweiler and a Chihuahua, receive the implants. The 2 ½ day seminar also covered breeding and whelping, vaccinations, parasite control, and socialization and temperament. Several open discussions were held to share information on proper screening of puppy buyers and the use of contracts to protect the puppy as well as the breeder. The comments about the course have caused CKC to already begin planning the next breeder seminar as well as an advanced course for the people that attended this first course. Due to space limitations, many people had to be turned away. We are looking for a larger seminar location for future seminars. The information was well received by novice and advanced breeders alike.
